Crossed Arms Reduce Pain

MagNet News - From a recent study, revealed that the cross arm can reduce pain. Studies conducted by researchers from University College London, published in the journal Pain.

Researchers say, crossing her arms can confuse the brain and cause a conflict of information between the two maps in the brain. One brain to the body the person concerned, and one map again to monitor the external space. Conflict of information that may decrease the pain.

At the trial, the laser beam was fired for 4 milliseconds into the hands of eight volunteers. They are bombarded with laser twice. Once when their arms were on the side and another at arms crossed.

Participants were then asked to give the value of pain intensity in the two situations and EEG (electroencephalography) is used to measure the electrical response of their brains.

Apparently, the results of research, it is evident that both the perception of pain or of EEG activity, the pain was reduced when the arms are crossed.

"Chances are, when you feel sick, we do not just rub the sick to feel better, but should also cross our arms," said Giandomenico Iannetti, researchers from the Department of Physiology, Pharmacology and Neuroscience, University College London, as quoted by Xinhua, May 30, 2011.
